Drag Queens & Kings
A Portraits Series by JANET BOLTAX
LONG LIVE THE DRAG QUEEN:
Paintings by Janet Boltax
On View: September 15th - October 25th 2025
Behold the drag queen—not only a modern challenge to social norms, but part of a centuries-old tradition dating back to Shakespeare, when men played women’s roles. In this vivid series, MAM Portrait Instructor Janet Boltax captures the theatricality, drama, and poignancy of her subjects, expanding beyond faces to expressive poses and rich backgrounds that push her artistic boundaries. Boltax’s work have been shown in galleries, juried shows, and supported by grants and they celebrate the artistry, individuality, and cultural meaning of drag.
